How to get rid of xp antispyware 2011 virus?

I need help removing this virus. I can’t get onto the internet from that computer so I’m on another one, so I can’t download any program that would remove it for me. Is there any other way to get rid of this virus? Can anyone walk me through it? My mom though it was legit so she purchased the program when it asked, thinking it was actually going to work and paid $69.99 -______- Please help!

Download, install, update and do a full scan with either SUPERAntiSpyware or MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (or both, even — but one at a time), and let them remove whatever they find.  You’ll most likely need to do this in Safe Mode, and you can download them on the computer you’re on at the moment, and transfer them to the infected one with a usb flash drive or CD.

Once it’s cleaned up, install a good hosts file to help block unwanted popups, parasites, adware and spyware.  You can read about, download and install an excellent one from http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm   This hosts file blocks hundreds of known malicious URLs.  I’ve been using one from this website for several years now and rarely get popups and annoying ads.  Revisit the page every couple of months as it is updated from time to time with new sites.

Also, never use an administrator account for day-to-day use.  Always use a Standard or Limited account.  This will limit the amount of damage these things can do, and prevent them from installing by themselves.

As to your Mum paying for the software, get her to contact her bank and inform them that she has been defrauded, and they can reverse the payment.
