AVG Internet Security 8.5 Thinks iTunes is a virus!?
I was just on my laptop listening to iTunes, when i went to go and get a drink, then when i came back, I had a pop up from AVG saying that iTunes was a “Trojan Horse.Small.BOG”
This randomly happened, i hadn’t added any new songs or anything! Now it wont let me open iTunes as it says files are missing, then when i try to re-install iTunes, AVG nabs the files and shoves them in the vault! iTunes works fine with AVG turned off but Im not gonna go on the internet with no anti-virus. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING??!?!!
I assure you, you’re not alone. I handle virus infections manually, and suddenly I’ve been asked this same question in the past 5 hours with the latest versions of AVG and iTunes.
After looking into it, it would appear that AVG returns a “false positive” (thinks there’s an infection when there’s not). The latest update of AVG seems to think that iTunes is infected. Unless I’m to be mistaken, this is wrong, and should be fixed shortly.
This isn’t too unusual. Within the last year, AVG notoriously found User32.dll as malicious as a result of one of its definition file updates, resulting in many users bricking their Windows installation by accident.
Your best bet is to go without AVG until this is fixed (should be fixed VERY shortly, hopefully by tomorrow with the next update). If you don’t need iTunes open, re-enable AVG. When you need iTunes, disable AVG.
