How is it lawful for a website to redirect you to another site?

For example: Lets say you visit a site to do with making an online purchase; and you somehow get redirected to a site where someone tries to get your credit card number. (I’m not saying this has happened to me or anyone) But alot of websites do redirect people to another site in which they have no interest in! Is this soley for the purpose of installing a trojan horse or another malicious program? I have been to websites about playstation games and been redirected to cartoon porn? What the hell does that have to do with playstation 2?

What is happening is that most likely the playstation website you are on or connecting to is one that has contracted with an advertising company and the website owner has allowed the advertiser to redirect 1 visitor for every so many hits to be automatically redirected to a specific site. The website owner recieves payment for every redirected visitor. unfortunately many website owners are very desperate for money and will not screen ads allowing the ad company to redirect you to the highest bidder which are usually not so family friendly wedsites.

Beware ebay also has dropped the ball on screening items for sale. Example my son did a search for a car in the automotive section and hard core porn thumbnails were where images of the specific car model he was looking for should have been. The decription part was detailed about a car.
