Trojan Horse Battle

Why is it that in the Iliad Battle of Troy, the Spartan army had trouble taking down Troy’s army?

Agammemnon’s brother was the Spartan king and obviously had control over the Spartan army. Plus, Agammemnon’s army was also vast. Why did they have trouble taking down Troy?

And to think, the Spartans were very musculine and from the 300 soldiers that Leonidas commanded, they were an example of the epidemy of Spartan testosterone, the Spartans could have taken down Troy easily (not the film 300). And with the additional support of Agammemnon’s army, they would’ve destroyed Troy easily. But, why did they have a hard time?

No, I did not mean that Leonidas’ 300 spartans are the ones in the Battle of Troy! What I was just trying to say is that those 300 is an example of how musculine and big and strong the spartans were.

Just take away the Trojan Horse factor because real Spartans would never hide away in a giant horse.

First of all, there was no Leonidas and 300 in Troy. The battle of Thermopylae is history, and about 600 years after the estimated time of the Trojan war. Methods do evolve with time, you know, as do weapons.

Secondly, none of the armies of the time were wusses. The Trojans just had the city walls to cover them as well. It’s not rocket science that you need more effort to breach a city’s walls than defeat someone in hand-to-hand combat.

The Iliad is poetry and not history, but the Trojan horse factor is a metaphor for cunning being more effective than brute force. Which is still a fact.
