Slow Computer Clock
Why is the clock on my computer always slow?
I have to update the time daily on my computer to synchronize with a time server on the internet. I don’t know why the time is never correct.
AVG sucks! I had it on my last laptop, and I had so many viruses that AVG never caught that it crashed! No, I will not use AVG ever again.
If the time keeps getting slower each day, say it loses a minute every day so after a week it is 7 minutes behind, then there might be an issue with the crystal (component on the motherboard) or your BIOS firmware needs to be updated. If it is the crystal, it might be a result that it has gotten too hot over time and has lost some of its integrity. Unless you want to spend the time and money to get a new crystal, getting a new Motherboard maybe the only alternative (But I doubt the crystal will be the issue). If it is the BIOS, perhaps your current version is not compatible with some of the newer software/hardware on your PC. A BIOS Flash update should be available at your Manufacturer’s Website. If it keeps the time correct when your PC is on, but loses time when it is off, then most likely it is your CMOS Battery (as noted in an earlier post.)
If all your hardware checks out fine, then perhaps another source is changing your time. You mentioned an Internet server, but is your computer on any other server. Most Server-Client systems are setup that a policy is force that the server will adjust all PC Clocks on its Network to sync with its own. If that is the case, you won’t be able to adjust your clock to stay correct unless your PC disjoins the Network.
