February 27, 2010 9:59 pm | Anti Virus

ohh… dude… i want a antivirus or just a tool which can remove all viruses from my system.?

i tried every POPULAR anti virus software….like kaspersky, avg, avira, avast, quick heal, etc. like every software. they detected many viruses but problems remains unsolved. recently i installed loauris trojan remover demo version. it detect explorer.exe , services.exe, which can not be detected by above antiviruses. it was demo version so i cannot remove those. i guess some more .exe programe of windows file are infecting my computer. i do format my whole system in every month. (full clean) then i install antivirus like mostly avira latest version and do manually update. then i scan my external hard disk to ensure of any viruses. it shows all normal. but very soon like 4-5 days. my computer starts hanging like before. what to do?? any gueses. my computer configuration is so high as Quad core processor, 4 gb ram, 1 gb graphic card, 1500 gb hard disk. i cannot even enjoy speed of such processor. help me !!! thank u all

In addition to trying some of those AV tools, have you tried other Anti-Spyware tools? You need a blend of products on your computer to keep it healthy. A mix of 1 AV and 2 or so Anti-Spyware (1 active, 1 manual) is suggested by most in PC security forums.

Some ideas:

Free – Malwarebytes – Good at removing malware, and acting as a back-up program and scanner.: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

Free – Ad-Aware – Anti-spyware program that, unlike other free anti-spyware packages, has a live-protection module: http://download.cnet.com/Ad-Aware-Anniversary-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html

Free – You could also try Spybot S&D, but seems to use more CPU for less protection. SpyBot: http://download.cnet.com/Spybot-Search-amp-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html

Finally, after everything is fixed, download (FREE) and install McAfee Site Advisor. Site Advisor updates you on approved sites (as you surf and google) that have been previously verified: McAfee Site Advisor: http://download.cnet.com/McAfee-SiteAdvisor-for-Internet-Explorer/3000-2144_4-10508464.html

Here’s a good report (Feb 2009) on many of the top AV (anti-virus) products.

http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/stories/test/ondret/avc_report21.pdf

I believe a mix of the leading products (Avira, Avast, Nod32, Kaspersky, McAfee, Norton, Malwarebytes, AdAware, SpyBot) are good solutions whether you buy them or get the FREE versions. The core engines of these products take care of viruses, adware or spyware or malware exceptionally well. You just have to pick which ones do what…

As to basic FREE products, Avira’s Antivir has a detection rate of over 99%, includes “root-kit” protection, and uses less system resources. Avast detection rate is around 97.8% and includes “root-kit” protection. Avast Anti-Virus is good if people suggest that, Avira is just slightly better.

Many people praise AVG, but AVG’s detection rate is less than 85% for Script Malware and General Malware, and does NOT include “root-kit” protection in the FREE version…plus, slower scan speeds and a higher number of “false positives”.

When BUYing, Kaspersky, Nod32, McAfee and Norton are high up on the same list with Avira, Avast, etc…)

FIRST, for ANTI-VIRUS, I would recommend Avira which is FREE: Avira Antivir Personal: http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10322935.html

A good BUY anti-virus/anti-malware product is Kaspersky: http://download.cnet.com/Kaspersky-Internet-Security/3000-2239_4-10012072.html

You can also try, for FREE, Avast as an alternative anti-virus solution:
Avast 4 Home: http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10019223.html

SECOND, also make sure you have the right mix of product(s) so you have BOTH
ANTI-VIRUS AND ANTI-SPYWARE/MALWARE software running on your computer.

A good FREE mix could be Avira and Malwarebytes, with McAfee Site Advisor (FREE) installed as well. Avira Antivir Personal: http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10322935.html – Malwarebytes – http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

Or, a good BUY/FREE mix could be Kaspersky and AdAware (or Malwarebytes), with McAfee Site Advisor.
Kaspersky: http://download.cnet.com/Kaspersky-Internet-Security/3000-2239_4-10012072.html
Ad-Aware – http://download.cnet.com/Ad-Aware-Anniversary-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html

Hopefully, you get my main points of core features AND the mix of solutions. You just have to get those 2 things right and you’re covered!
