Google Adware Keyword

September 26, 2010 11:46 am | Adware-Spyware

can you give me your opinion about this problem in my pc?

yesterday i started downloading a game, when i saw that it was adding some shortcuts like “cheap pharmaceuticals’ etc on my desktop, i cancelled it at once..

every time after that when i typed keywords in google search, the first message was “your system has been hijacked by a dangerous virus…”

Is this adware/spyware?

i looked up for viruses using AVG scan, but there was none. I even tried AVG virus cleaner. That was of no use either!

when i clicked on C drive folders, i got a message saying there was 19 viruses detected and windows security has to remove it by downloading some file (something cleverly resembling Windows Security so i didnt download it)

Then i just did System Restore and now i have no problems, but i want to know if there is some viruses/problems still in my pc..

Thanks for reading this patiently.
I would appreciate your opinions/suggestions

I already have AVG antivirus, and it did not detect anything! i did a complete scan..

Get access to a program called AdAware…because you have some beasties that are in your computer. Usually a pretty easy thing to get rid of them. Anyway, get some sort of firewall and a good malware program. There is also a good antivirus program (free) called AntiVir. Remember an antivirus program and a malware program are two different things. Good luck.

The Following EDIT is for information only…it is NOT an accusation:

…and, for God’s sake, do not download any music, games, or anime…especially from P2P sites. To give you an idea of what can happen…let me just tell you that stuff you find on P2P sites may have been planted by the owner of the copyright. So, you bite on it…and within minutes, you get an e-mail from your ISP…talking about service termination, etc. BTW, a place called “The Learning Company” is infamous for this. Copyright holders are really declaring war on piracy (not that you were doing any pirating)…and now they have a new law just signed by the Prez officially declaring war on people who download. Everybody in the Anime community knows about this…and there is no “vaccine” program that will erase your accessing their property.

What once was Geek’s Heaven for free stuff has become a felony. Believe me, I am the biggest renegade around, but the days of outlaw downloading are OVER. I spoke to a friend of mine who works for the FBI in the Kansas City Region…and she said that this is becoming a major priority for law enforcement. Let’s just say…you won’t find LimeWire or any Torrent Sites on my PCs…it is just too dangerous, both for virus/malware issues and for the possibility of prosecution.

It sounds like you got by with just annoyance this time, but you may not be so lucky next time. Do yourself a favor and do NOT download anything except from legal, trusted sources. Peace.

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Adware, or advertisingsupported software, is any software package which automatically plays, displays, or downloads advertisements to a computer. These advertisements can be in the form of a popup. The object of the Adware is to generate revenue for its author. Adware, by itself, is harmless; however, some adware may come with integrated spyware such as keyloggers and other privacyinvasive software. Advertising functions are integrated into or bundled with the software, which is often designed to note what Internet sites the user visits and to present advertising pertinent to the types of goods or services featured there. Adware is usually seen by the developer as a way to recover development costs, and in some cases it may allow the software to be provided to the user free of charge or at a reduced price. The income derived from presenting advertisements to the user may allow or motivate the developer to continue to develop, maintain and upgrade the software product. Conversely, the advertisements may be seen by the user as interruptions or annoyances, or as distractions from the task at hand. Google Book Search

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Google Book Search is a service from Google that searches the full text of books that Google scans, converts to text using optical character recognition, and stores in its digital database. The service was formerly known as Google Print when it was introduced at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2004. When relevant to a users keyword search, up to three results from the Google Book Search index are displayed above search results in the Google Web Search service (google.com). A user may also search just for books at the dedicated Google Book Search service. Clicking a result from Google Book Search opens an interface in which the user may view pages from the book as well as contentrelated advertisements and links to the publishers website and booksellers. Through a variety of access limitations and security measures, some based on usertracking, Google limits the number of viewable pages and attempts to prevent page printing and text copying of material under copyright. The Google Book Search database continues to grow. Google Book Search allows publicdomain works and other outofcopyright material to be downloaded in PDF format.
