What anti-virus protection should I use for my PC?

I have been using the “AVG Free Edition 7.5″. Recently, I was informed that they will no longer be updating the free edition, and that I should upgrade to the 8.0 version, which will cost approximately $50. I haven’t really been that impressed with AVG, and would like to try to get a really good product for under $50 if I can. Here’s what I’m looking for in an anti-virus protection program:

First, You can update to AVG Free 8.0 that will not cost you anything and they have updated their interface. But if you don’t like AVG go to Avast Antivirus. They are also free and most people like them. In conjunction i would run Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware (those are not continuously scanning though). Goodluck!
