Flashget Adware
why is it when i install flashget, my antispyware said that there is a spyware/adware on the flashget …?
Flashget is one of those “grey area” programs when it comes to whether or not it is spyware.
Some anti-spyware vendors consider Flashget to be a low level risk form of spyware, many others don’t.
One anti-spyware vendor says this about FlashGet:
“Spyware Information: FlashGet
This is a Browser Helper Object (BHO). BHO’s connect to Internet Explorer while it’s running, and share information. BHO’s were originally designed to allow Internet Explorer to handle new types of data and to offer new features not originally designed into the product (like search toolbars, for example). But because BHO’s have access to all the information about the web sites that you visit (and because BHO’s run on your computer and could potentially do anything they want), they have been used by advertising companies and others to track you online.

Ultimately, YOU must make the decision if Flashget is spyware on not. Read the EULA carefully, don’t just blindly check “I Accept”. Google “Flashget” and see what others are saying.
If you, yourself, are comfortable with any information the program may “phone-home” with; the keep the program.
If you are not comfortable with it, then uninstall Flashget and find an alternative.
Good luck.

Flashget $103.56 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles FlashGet (formerly JetCar, from the literal translation of the Chinese phrase ) is a freeware download manager for Microsoft Windows. It was originally available in either paid or advertsupported versions, the latter of which included an Internet Explorer Browser Helper Object (BHO). FlashGet has suffered from security flaws in its update mechanism which caused users to become infected with trojan viruses. There is also some concern about FlashGet downloading every file indicated by its FGUpdate3.ini file that is downloaded from the developer every time FlashGet is started. A malicious FGUpdate3.ini modified for exploit and introduced directly through the developers server could cause FlashGet to download malware to the computer without alerting the user. Adware by Elmo, Timoteus [Paperback] $78.07 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Adware, or advertisingsupported software, is any software package which automatically plays, displays, or downloads advertisements to a computer. These advertisements can be in the form of a popup. The object of the Adware is to generate revenue for its author. Adware, by itself, is harmless; however, some adware may come with integrated spyware such as keyloggers and other privacyinvasive software. Advertising functions are integrated into or bundled with the software, which is often designed to note what Internet sites the user visits and to present advertising pertinent to the types of goods or services featured there. Adware is usually seen by the developer as a way to recover development costs, and in some cases it may allow the software to be provided to the user free of charge or at a reduced price. The income derived from presenting advertisements to the user may allow or motivate the developer to continue to develop, maintain and upgrade the software product. Conversely, the advertisements may be seen by the user as interruptions or annoyances, or as distractions from the task at hand.
