ERROR MESSAGE! NEED HELP!?

Last night i downloaded Steam the online gaming whatever. i downloaded alien swarm and everything was going pretty good. i clicked on it and it loaded fine then i closed it and turned off my laptop and went to sleep. today i try to play it or click on steam and i keep getting the exact error message that follows: “ERROR Steam.exe (main inception): The registry is in use by another process, timeout expired.” WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX THIS?! please help!

First thing try restarting your computer. 2nd step uninstall the game you just installed and try reinstalling it. 3rd uninstall steam and reinstall it.
