PFN_LIST_CORRUPT Error Message at Windows Startup

In Windows operating system, a table called Page Frame Database (PFD) keeps track of all the physical pages of memory. This PFD is a large one-dimensional array that is indexed by Physical Frame Number list or PFN. Corruption in PFN mainly occurs due to buggy driver, corrupted or damaged RAM, virus hit and more. The second reason for the PFN corruption is memory corruption. If a system contains a buggy driver that is writing on the memory, which it does not own, then it could corrupt the PFN entries.

Resolution:

To resolve the above problem and access the data, you need to follow these steps:

• You need to run hardware diagnostic applications, which are generally provided by your computer manufacturer.
• You need to disable all file system filter drivers, such as backup utilities, virus scanners, or firewall software from your system.
• Remove extra Random Access Memory (RAM) from your system.
• Verify that the hardware and the drivers are compatible with Windows 2000 operating system. If they are incompatible, then you need to install the compatible drivers.
