Hard drive issues + audio device issue?

Hey I’m having trouble with my Compaq Presario C300 laptop. I recently got a new hard drive and I installed XP Home on it. Right now I’m having trouble with the hard drive 120GB; I get random restarts, my laptop suddenly freezes on me, and I might already have a Virus on it.
I’m also having trouble with my audio device. I can’t seem to install it for some reason. I’m getting all my drivers from the official website ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw… ) because no Driver CD came with the laptop (they had a recovery partition instead).
In order to install the audio driver I had to install the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver first, and I did. But when I come to install the audio driver I get an error message saying that the media device was not found etc. I’m really getting annoyed by this because I can’t listen to music or watch movies or play games or anything.

If you know the name of the virus, look it up in a search engine with the word removal beside it. That should bring up any removal tools, or instructions to get rid of it.
Have a look in Device Manager (Control Panel…System…Hardware…Device Manager) and see if there are any ‘road sign’ looking icons next to any audio devices. if the device isn’t listed in there, then scan for hardware (Add Hardware wizard in Control Panel). Don’t choose ‘Automatically look’, select the one that will let you look for the device yourself. See if it comes up in the list it gives, and try installing it that way. If it does install it, then try the drivers again.
I’d be a bit worried about the Hard drive, but that may be related to virus, so try getting rid of one and see if the other works after that.:)
