What to Do When Windows Has Recovered From a Serious Error

Have you ever encountered the following scenario? You’re working on something on your computer, either for work or for leisure, when suddenly an error message pops up on your screen saying something along the lines of “Windows has recovered from a serious error”? Then when you click “OK” you find that all your open File Explorer windows close by themselves, and don’t reopen when your computer recovers from its hiccup. While you may not necessarily end up losing your precious work, it may still be a cause for concern to you, because if you don’t deal with the problem you may end up encountering the error message after every restart, even if there are no other errors that have occurred after the original one. There are several possible causes for this particular error message. Usually when Windows recovers from a serious error it would indicate a problem with the system registry. While this may seem like a rather daunting revelation, fret not. Whenever you encounter the error message, you will need to take note of what it says exactly, word for word. Somewhere on the error message there are should be some numbers and letters which would point you to the faulty module, such as Page file, drivers, RAM, or other components of your computer.

However, to ensure that you get to see the full error message, you will need to turn off the automatic restart function of your computer. You can do so by right clicking on your My Computer icon and select Go To Properties. This will bring you to the System Properties window, where you should click on the Advanced tab under Startup and Recovery area. Once there, click on Settings and make sure that the check box to Automatically Restart is unchecked. You can then click OK in the Startup and Recovery window and in the System Properties window.

Once you’ve done this, whenever you encounter the system error message, your computer will not automatically restart, and you would have the opportunity to view the full error message to figure out what it is that’s causing the system error. Do note however that a manual reboot would be necessary in this case, and it can be quite a hassle if you continue to receive the error messages, followed by a full system halt.

You can prevent future occurrences by using a registry cleaner. Because these errors are typically caused by a fault in the registry, using a registry cleaner may help you sort these faults. The errors may come from the page file, so the solution to this problem is simply to recreate it. You can fix the problem by doing the following:

Go to Start and right click on My Computer, then Properties. Click the Advanced tab, then under the Performance section, click on Settings. This will take you to the Performance Options window. Click on the Advanced tab, and click Change under the Virtual Memory section. Under Paging File Size For The Selected Drive, click No Paging File, and click Yes when prompted by a warning message. Click System Managed Size, and click OK on all the open settings windows. You should then restart your computer.

Preventing error messages such as “Windows has recovered from a serious error” is possible and in fact real easy to do. All you need is a registry cleaner, and a regular maintenance schedule to keep your system registry in order. So get one today.
