Images Lost “Disk Not Formatted” Error Message occured

Compact Flash cards are used mostly by photographers for storing their digital images. It is needless to say that the files stored thereon are precious, and need to be handled carefully. The card is formatted to enable its usage. However, incorrect formatting or formatting not performed in accordance with memory card can lead the photographers into serious problems. One such problem is losing all the data stored on memory card. In such situations, ff a back-up is available, then it is easy to compensate the loss. However, when no backup file copy is accessible, one can use an Image Recovery Software to retrieve lost files.

For example, while attempting to view the images stored on CompactFlash card, you get the following error message:

“Disk is not Formatted. Do you want to format it now?”

After the above error message pops up, the images saved on your memory card becomes inaccessible.

Cause:

Memory cards are generally formatted on a computer system. Often we come across situations when the card has been formatted in accordance with one operating system and therefore cannot be used by any other system.

Resolution:

You will need to re-format the card, in accordance with the system it is being used for, to be able to use it again.

If you are using a Windows based computer, follow the steps below to format the card using ‘Disk Management’:

• Right-click on the ‘My Computer’ icon. Then select the ‘Manage’ option.

• Under ‘Storage’, click ‘Disk Management’ on the left pane.

• From the list of drives and devices on the right pane, right-click the one that is to be formatted.

• Then click Format.

• You might get a warning message asking you if you want to continue formatting the drive. Select Yes.

• Click OK to format.

Since formatting the card erases all the data , use an Image Recovery Software to recover lost images. These software safely recoups data stored on the card even after it has been formatted. Using these software, Image Recovery can be performed after any kind of image loss.
