computer question again..?

recently my computer had been acting up..and not letting me use the internet..like right when I got on my internet ..either firefox or IE..it would boot me off with this message saying ” such and such has found an error and needs to close, send error report. blah blah..and that was when I didn’t have any anti-virus or any firewall..well now I added comodo firewall & anti-virus..and it doesn’t seem to be doing anything lol..and now my computer is back to booting me off the internet..for some reason it lets me on yahoo answers..so what am I missing here? obviously..the firewall/anti-virus isn’t finding the virus..oh and I have annoying pop-ups pop up alot..what’s the best thing for me to do to stop this problem? is there a better anti-virus program that is free….please help, has this ever happened before to anyone?!

For Anti-Virus I use AVG Antivirus Free Edition

The popup problem sounds like Spyware rather than a virus though – Try downloading Spybot as well as Ad-Aware and having them run their full scans — Using them in combo is a good idea(however, let one of them scan, then the other.. not both at the same time)
