are matousec’s firewall ratings fake?
Many companies no longer make stand-alone firewalls. They only come in security suite — like mcafee, avira, g-data, avg, avast, etc etc. However, when matousec tests them, it turns off the antivirus of the security suite and uses the firewall only component. Due to this fact, stand alone firewalls like comodo, private firewall, etc etc rank very high. The security suite was never meant to use only its firewall without its spyware and antivirus being turned on. It can only be used with antivirus and antispyware turned on, in order to prevent intrusion and leaks. However matousec intentionally weakens the security suite by turning off everything but firewall and then puts it to test. This is why all security suites like mcafee, avg, avira, g-data, avast, etc etc have 2% or 1% score. While comodo has 100% score.
No the test aren’t fake, but they really don’t have much meaning. How fair is it to have a test and turn off the protection on part of the program. Matousec’s won’t change the way he tests, and the anti-virus companies are not going the change their programs for matousec’s tests. Matousec’s used to be a respected test, but it’s no longer considered by many to really have much meaning.
