Okay, it is a myth that Macs could get viruses. Really, people have tried but not succeeded. (They could get hacked theoretically, but there are very few Mac hacks, and anyways this is different from viruses which spread by themselves.) And it is a myth that there are no viruses simply due to a lower market share. There are probably more unprotected Macs than unprotected Windows computers, yet there are 200,000 Windows viruses and 0 Mac OS X or Linux viruses (since these operating systems are Unix-based).

You don’t need internet security software. Norton will say Macs aren’t more secure than Windows, even though this is totally not true, just because they want your money.

You can still delete cookies, this is a browser, not OS, thing. Like, I use Firefox. In the Tools menu, there is an option to clear private data, and I just choose “cookies”.

You don’t need to worry about disk fragmentation, viruses, or spyware.

A good idea, though, is to repair disk permissions every once in a while (just to make sure everything opens with the right program fast enough). All you have to do is open Applications > Utilities > Open Disk Utility > Click your hard drive’s name > Click Verify Disk Permissions, wait a minute > Click Repair Disk Permissions (if anything shows up in red) > Wait a minute > You’re done for the next month or two (or however long you want ).
