What is the Best Anti virus Suit for a Gaming Machine?

I have 2 pc’s. One is laptop for work and the other is a desktop pc i use mainly for everything not connected to work. There is a lot of Anti virus Suites out there that do a good job and offer Firewall and Spam Guard like Norton and McAfee.
These are renoun for be so called System Hogs. They take up a lot of ram and system resources.
Im using AVG Free on my Gaming machine which seems to be a nice little app and has kept my system clean for nearly a year and also seems to not be so taxing. This is only the Anti virus. I am looking to upgrade to AVG Pro so that i get the full protection treatment. But is this going to take up a lot of resources? is there a better alternative? One thats not a system hog but does a good job keeping the badies out….

This is just personal opinion. Based on my own research, it seems like suites are more bloated than individual utilities. In other words, if you install an AV, AS and firewall individually, they usually use fewer resources than a suite. Then there’s the safety issue. If something goes wrong with the AV in a suite, it usually affects the entire suite of products and you lose all functionality. If the programs are installed individually that won’t happen.

Another consideration is what else will you get with a suite of products that you’ll actually use? I hate paying for something if I won’t use it or if it duplicates what I’ve already got. Like spam blockers. My email provider does a great job blocking spam. I don’t need another one in a suite. And Norton seems to be the biggest resource hog of them all.

I’ve used AVG for a few years with zero problems. They also offer a separate (and free) AS program.
