Avast, Avg, or Avira? Please Help!?

Hey, I’m getting an new laptop next week and have no idea what anti-virus I should get. My 3 choices are Avast, Avg, and Avira since they are the top downloads on Cnet. I used Avg before and I worked well, but it made my computer a little slow. After reading reviews I might just go with Avast. What do you think I should get???

All are good programs. You can check at http://reviews.cnet.com/software/ and search for any software you like. You will see Editor and Consumer reviews – and read them yourself to determine if they fit your needs.

There is no one BEST program for everyone! Each person’s individual computer usage is completely different. Some folks download illegal programs and music, which exposes them to more infections than any other behavior. Some folks only read their email and do some light surfing.

Because usage is different, the appropriate software is different for everyone.

Here is a list of free programs that do their job well, for various security tasks. Most of the time, several programs are necessary to maintain a full range of security/protection against viruses, trojans, worms, etc.

There is a safe site, with software reviews by both the editors and users at www.download.com Most of the following programs can be downloaded from there.

ANTI-VIRUS:
-AVG by Grisoft
-Avira
-Avast
Any *one* of these would probably work well for you! Read the reviews to be sure.

ANTI-SPYWARE:
Since NONE of the anti-spyware/anti-adware programs are 100 percent accurate in finding and removing spyware, you need *at least* two programs which you will run one after the other, not at the same time.

There are several excellent free ones:
-Spybot, Search and Destroy
-Ad-Aware
-Spyware Blaster
-Superantispyware
-Malwarebytes

FIREWALL:
-Comodo
-Online Armor
-SandBoxie
-Sunbelt Personal Firewall (formerly Kerio)
-Zone Alarm

GENERAL CLEANING:
-Ccleaner

HTH!

Antivirus software is a key security technology on todays end user systems. Current antivirus engines use two complementary techniques to detect malware. One is to statically scan potential malware sample files for certain patterns which are known ( malware signatures ). The other is to dynamically detect typical malicious behavior (e.g., modifications of registry keys, DLL injections etc.) upon execution of a sample. No antivirus product can reliably detect malware. Rather, all products are plagued by false positives and false negatives. An interesting approach to improve the reliability of detection is to run several antivirus products on a given malware sample. There are several online scanning services, that implement this approach. However, for performance reasons these services only use the static signature detection functionality of the anti virus products, and thus do not take advantage of the full functionality of current antivirus engines. This book explains how to overcome this limitation and to build an efficient online malware scanning service that fully utilizes the capabilities of current antivirus engines. Respiratory Syncytial Virus

Respiratory Syncytial Virus

$222.29

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) was first identified half a century ago in 1956. Following its discovery, the virus soon became recognised as a major viral pathogen causing extensive outbreaks of respiratory tract infections in both the very young and in vulnerable adults. It is an unusual virus in that it can cause repeated reinfections throughout life. The topics covered within this volume are wide ranging in scope from the most basic molecular biology of the virus to the clinical picture of RSV in the developing world. The internationally recognised experts were invited not only to review the present state of knowledge but also to give their perspective on the current situation and to identify the gaps and future requirements for research in an effort to stimulate new cross-cutting approaches to tackle this major viral pathogen.
