Can anyone help me get this antivirus off my computer?

I have a Window XP desktop and I downloaded an anti virus protection software called Alpha Antivirus. I have been trying to uninstall this software but I can’t find it anywhere on my pc. I have looked in all sorts of files even when into add/remove programs. I have tried a search from files to hidden files, folders,desktop,my computer ect ect. The list goes on. I know the software is still on my pc because the icon is still on the bottom tool bar and it still pops up all types of messages concerning viruses and scheduled scans. How can I get this off my computer and where do I begin to look?
