Apple’s Safari Browser.?

I am trying Safari browser From Apple.
It is so fast, sleek with no add-ons, light and efficient.
But is it a secure browser?
This is the only browser without phishing filters, or add ons like Mcafee site advisor etc… etc…
So my question is – is it safe to use on secure sites, and is it safe against most spyware/Adware or viruses.
